Army Builder's Guide, part 1: How To Build A Droid Army

Roger, roger!
Today we'll take a closer look at army building. Some LSW fans are passionate about building huge armies and some just say "Well, I'm a completionist and have picked up quite many sets during all these years and now I have a lot of droids. What should I do with them?" Whatever, now we'll focus on droid armies.

Getting the droids

Number one tip is "never buy a big set only for the droids". Even if it was the MTT, not this a little bit droid poor #75058, but the older one #7662 (which costs over 400$ on Ebay nowadays). You can sell the rest bricks on Bricklink, but that won't be  the biggest deal anyway. The wisest thing you can do is buy used (good condition) droids from Bricklink. If you want a shining army, buy new droids. They are a little bit more expensive and when you want multiple droids, you need to think about it twice. But whatever you buy, don´t buy random used dusty droids unless you want to build a droid battalion that's fighting on the swamps of Kashyyyk.

There are multiple options what kind of droids you can use. You can buy just standard battle droids or add some rare rocket battle droids. But don't use standard battle droids and battle droid Geonosians in the same army.

You can even add some vehicles, like MTTs (#7184, #7662, #75058), STAPs (#30004, #30058, #7868, #7675), droid carriers (#7126, #7929, #75086) and AATs (#7155, #8018, #75080).

Building the army

I guess you all can build a battle droid whether it was a standard battle droid or a droideka, but the bigger question is "How can I make them look the coolest army in the galaxy?" Set the droids into smaller groups. Don't put different droids in the same group unless you're just adding a commander. STAPs can be next to the droids and bigger vehicles on the front line or behind the droids.

You don't have to have a huge army to make it look cool. 30 battle droids with a commander might look nice already. An army of 1000 droids can turn into chaos when set in a wrong way. My personal army contains about 100 droids at the moment but it's getting bigger, I hope. We'll see later.

Wish you look with your army building!
